Find Delight in the Law of the Lord (day 21)

But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law he does meditate day and night.

For many years I was told to delight myself in the law of the LORD. Ya know what? It is boring. Until I discovered the secret that is in plain sight.

The instructions we can find in God’s Word are directions for successful living. Now I know nothing about financial success, but this is success in life. Remember when we looked at Matthew 11:28-30.

Come to Me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke on you and learn of Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you shall find rest to your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.

This is the success that Jesus promises. And the instruction for this promise is in Psalms 1, where we have been looking.

I delight in something when my emotions are stirred in a pleasant way. I have never been able to choose to be delighted. I just can’t be delighted with apricots. I don’t care for them, at all. I couldn’t just be delighted with the Law of the Lord. But when I took a Law of God and looked at it and rolled it around in my mind for a time I realized that even though at first it might seem distasteful, later it became very pleasant and I began to become delighted with what God’s Word tells me is the course that creation does follow.

Precious Father in Heaven, help me to take this word seriously. This passage tells me that there are things that I must do, until they become pleasant and a pleasure to me. Once again this is something that I cannot do on my own. On my own I will lose interest or be distracted and come back some time later and then be discouraged. Please be my helper and guide, in the beautiful name of Jesus and for his glory ALWAYS. Amen.
